What Does My Test Result Indicate?

Question: How much iron should i be taking based on these test results? See attached lab results.
Ive also had RNY gastric bypass.

Thanks for asking.

I am Dr. Jyothi BL and I will be answering your query.

Looking at the query, my opinion is as follows:

1. Oral Iron therapy wont be helpful. Iron gets absorbed in duodenum and your surgery bypasses it.

2. Parenteral iron preferably iron infusion will be helpful. You can go for 1000 - 1500 mg infusion and repeat iron studies after a week. If its returned to normal, you can repeat and follow it up once in two month. Make sure, you take a test dose before infusion as allergic reactions can be seen occasionally.
