Brief Answer:
Differentiate between benign and malignant tumour

Detailed Answer:

Hi

Since your doctor found cancerous cells in liver on ultrasonography and you are having pain on right side
I would recommend u do magnetic resonance imaging of liver.

MRI scans can be very helpful in looking at liver tumors. Sometimes they can tell a benign tumor from a malignant one. However it will be too early to predict what might come from the MRI. They can also be used to look at blood vessels in and around the liver, and can help show if liver cancer has spread to other parts of the body.

Brief Answer:
Biopsy

Detailed Answer:
Hi

MRI is an excellent modality for evaluating soft tissue neoplasms but however prediction of a specific diagnosis and differentiation of malignant and benign lesions is not always possible.

If the lesion is found to be benign on imaging then no further treatment is necessary and only observation is needed.

If the lesion is found to be malignant then it is to be determined whether the original primary source is the liver or whether it has spread to the liver from other sources called metastasis.

To determine malignant lesions primary source a test called biopsy needs to be done which is a procedure to remove a piece of tissue or a sample of cells from your liver so that it can be analyzed in a laboratory.
