default
Posted on Sat, 22 Aug 2015
Question: Hi I have had my UA done a few times in the last year and there is always RBC microscopic 4+(6-10hpf) and when it gets sent to micro there is no infection. I am 32 years old and have a family history of bladder cancer should I be worried? I have no UTI or kidney stones or intense exercise.

Brief Answer:
The last time this was done, were you on your periods?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this persistent finding of blood in your urine. It is certainly not normal.. I will like to know the various reasons for which you had this UA done and whether you were on your periods or not. Blood in urine in females is often caused by poor collection techniques especially during or shortly after their periods.

Though you have a family history of cancer of the bladder, you are too young to have this. Kidney stones without pain is very unlikely. Can I also get this report uploaded for independent review and second opinion? I hope to hear from you at your earliest convenience.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Brief Answer:
Is it possible you upload the results?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for the precision. Can you upload the results for me to review? I will like to know if these RBCs are reported as seen under the microscope or using a test strip. I will also like to look at other components of this test to provide a comprehensive interpretation as well as recommendations.

To upload an image, simply click on the link to upload a file and follow the instructions. If this proves difficult, please send the image by mail to YYYY@YYYY and request that the image should be uploaded to your query.

Let me hear from you at your earliest convenience!

Brief Answer:
With WBC, this is more suggestive of an infection!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have reviewed these results. The micro might have said no infection but the findings suggest you had a UTI. I will like to know if you got any antibiotics for this before going for micro.

With RBC, cloudy urine, WBC and leukocytes, this cannot be related to kidney stones, cancer of the bladder because this is rare and almost impossible. The only clear explanation at this time is a possible infection.

Let me know what your thoughts are and whether you are still very concerned about a possible cancer.
