What Does My MRI Scan Report Indicate?

Question: If an xray on the right middle finger (knuckle) does not reveal a previous injury (4 years ago), yet the doctor says it's osteoporosis, will an MRI clarify that there is an injury there? When I form a fist, the middle finger is completely 'locked down' and I must pry is up with my left hand - the knuckle clicks into place OR the finger is bent and will not straighten until I press the right side of the knuckle and click it back in place. I am right handed and need to use all right hand fingers. If I am using the hand, sometimes there is an ache from the knuckle, through the back of the hand to mid-forearm.

Brief Answer:
Probably tendon injury

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to HCM.

Yes, MRI should be done since X-rays can verify only bone and joint disorders while tendons , nerves and vessels can be detected only with MRI.

In your case, it sounds like flexor tendon is dislocated and similar things can be seen in "TRIGGER" finger .

For example, sometimes it can be repaired and usually require plastic or hand surgeon.

So MRI should be done.

Wish you good health.
Regards
