What Does Brownish Vaginal Discharge Post I Pill Intake Indicate?

Posted on Fri, 16 Oct 2015
Question: Hi, had unprotected sex before 5 days of my due date of periods. Took an ipill within 24 hrs. 24 hrs After taking the pill had l light brownish discharge for2days. Did not need a pad then. But from 3rd day some reddish discharge nd a need for pad.
I think it is withdrawal bleeding incidentally happening on the same day i should have had my periods.
To be safe, when should i get a pregnancy test done? And, should i expect my periods to be missed for this time? If yes, then should i wait for the pregnancy test done on the end of next due date of my periods?

Brief Answer:
Suggestive of side effects of I Pill.

Detailed Answer:
Hi & Welcome.
I can understand your concern.
After having gone through the history it seems to me

1.You had unprotected sex during your SAFE PERIOD i.e., 5 days before your due date hence there is less chance of getting pregnant.
2. Bleeding is due to the side effect of I pill as it contains high dose of Progesterone (levonorgestrel) it can cause irregular bleeding.
3. Sometimes I pill can change the length of your monthly menstrual cycle, making your next period come as much as a week earlier or a week later than usual.
4. If it has been at least 10 days since you had unprotected sex and you have a delayed period then you can take a home pregnancy test to find out if you are pregnant.

Hope this answers your query.

Had sex on 25th sep, took ipill on 25th itself, due date was 29th-30th sep. So, plz suggest, the test should b taken on 10th oct?
I'm confused wether periods of sep. will get delayed, which obviously have, cause the bleeding seems like ipill's side effect, or they would be a miss? Or periods of 29th oct. ( as per my regular cycle) will get delayed or start early...
Cause waiting wrongly long can keep me unaware of the unwanted pregnancy( just in case)!

Brief Answer:
Irregular bleeding is common after the use of I pill

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Good morning!
Thanks for your reply.
As explained before irregular bleeding & a change in the duration of the next period (it may start early or may be delayed) can occur following the use of I pill.

As a matter of fact you had unprotected sex in the SAFE PERIOD, so there is nothing to worry about the risk of pregnancy.

The test can be done on October 10th, if you are still in doubt.
Hope I could clear your doubt.

Regards.
