What Does Abdominal Pain Along With Negative STD Tests Post Unprotected Sex Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 30 Oct 2014
Question: Hello,

I had unprotected sex 12 weeks ago. I was tested for all STDs at 25 days including a hep b core antibody, igm test. All came back negative. I retested at 11 weeks. Again all came back negative including the hep b core antibody, igm test. I feel like I have minor abdominal pain, lost appetite, achy muscles, mild nasuea and tired. I'm I being paranoid or should I be confident I don't have and have never had Hepatitis B? Also, at 8 weeks I started taking Zoloft. Could the Zoloft be causing these symptoms. Please help. I've been very anxious lately.

negative for hepatitis B.allay fears.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for query.I am Dr Bharatesh D Basti answering your query.
All intercourse cannot transmit disease. Transmission occur in 1/200 to 1/2000 cases even if partner is positive.here may be negative also.
All STDs have come negative is good at both times.you can allay fears of STDs.
Hepatitis B is also negative after 90 days is good.it is almost conclusive.
You need not worry.
The symptoms are all non specific and may be due to your anxiety or drug intake.
You can get back for any clarification

Would you suggest another test between 12 and 14 weeks? Also, the hep b core antibody coming in negative confirms I have never had a hepatitis b case now in in the past, correct?

Brief Answer:
yes negative for hepatitis B.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for follow up query.
Tests would be negative for HBSAg and antibody test signifies negative for hepatitis B. So you need not repeat test again at 12-14 weeks. It will not make difference and will come negative.
If both ag and ab negative it is sure that you do not have hepatitis B .
If at all you are anxious get it done after 6 months. I do not see need for repeat test.

Does a hep b core antibody, igm test both ag and ab at the same time?

Also, does a hep b core antibody, igm test confirm no acute heptatis currently and no acute past history of hepatitis? Or does it only test for just for active acute?

Brief Answer:
IgM indicates acute infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for follow up query.
IgM core antibody test indicates acute infection .
It does not test for antigen.it will only indicate current infection and not about past infection.
usually HBSAg test for antigen also will be done along with it which indicates presence of hepatitisB surface antigen and indicates he is infective.
If you need past infection then either hbsag should be positive and/or anti HBc antibody (not igM) should be positive.
You can get back for any clarification else close the discussion and rate.
