Question: Morning, I have a question and concern about something that my 13 years old son has in his chest right under his nipple area. It was descibed to me as being a hard mass that is painful. It stated out to be small but is getting bigger to the piont were it looks like he is devoping a breast compared to the other side that is flat. I dont know which side. He is in XXXXXXX St. and Im in Florida. Could this be part of his puberty? He told me that everything else is good with him.

Brief Answer:
Part of puberty - Dont worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi...you need not be concerned about this. This is part of pubertal development in this aged boys. The swelling automatically settles and will absolve by itself. I will let you know the danger signs or red flags when you need to consult your paediatrician -
1. High grade fever
2. Redness and tenderness at the area.
3. Sudden increase in size and accumulation of pus under the skin or at the area.
4. Any liquid oozing from the region or nipple.

If none of the above symptoms are present...you need not worry. If it is possible can you ask him to take a photo and upload it, so that I can see and decide it the swelling too abnormal.

To be XXXXXXX with you and to take off your stress in the matter, even I too went through the same issue at that age. This pain and swelling may persist for 4-6 weeks. It will settle by itself in due course. Do not worry.

Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time. Further clarifications and consultations on Health care magic are welcome. If you are happy with my suggestions, rate the answer. Wish your kid good health.
