What Does A Lump On Left Side Of The Throat Indicate?
Question: I HAVE LUMP CAME UP A COUPLE DAYS AGO ON LEFT SIDE OF THROAT, NOT ON JAWLINE NOT ON GLAND UNDER THE EAR, ITS 2 FINGERS DOWN FROM JAW BONE, IT ACHES AND HURTS WHEN SWALLOWING. I FEEL IT PRESSING ON LEFT SIDE BOTTOM OF TONGUE WHEN SWALLOWING AND MY EAR HURTS TOO WHEN I SWALLOW, MY TEETH ARE FINE, NOTHING WHEN TOUCHING BONE WHAT IS IT AND HOW DO I TREAT IT? i HAVE I HAVE 25 FAMILY MEMBERS WHO HAVE DIED FROM CANCER A TWIN DIED OF LUNG AND BRAIN CANCER, MY OLDEST BROTHER BATTLED THYROID CANCER LAST YEAR HE IS IN REMISSION. IT DOES NOT MOVE FROM SIDE TO SIDE IT IS A STATIONARY SOLID SWOLLEN MASS.

As per your history and symptoms, that looks to be a lymph node swelling, but still a clinical examination is mandatory to come to a diagnosis, specially with your so strong family history of cancers.
In my opinion, a needle biopsy will also be needed to help reach a diagnosis. As you say the swelling is hard and fixed, so it goes more in favor of a malignant, as you are also having difficulty in swallowing too.
So i would suggest that you show it to a physician, preferably a surgeon for a clinical examination, and get a needle biopsy also.
Further management will depend upon the findings of the above two.

I see my family doctor Monday what can I do to ease the pain,I'm on 21 medications one being prednisone I can medroll or increase it until I see doctor, my question is will that help it, the increased prednisone, I have broad spectrum antibiotics from another doctor, should I massage it, put heat on it, ice? I would suggest that you withhold your prednisone till the examination is done on monday, as it decreases the body's immunity to fight diseases and take those broad spectrum antibiotics, as it may even be a lymph node swelling following a infection.
In that way, you can also see the response to the antibiotic and an infective angle can easily be evaluated.
