What Do These Ultrasound And Biopsy Reports Indicate?
Your images show a significant suspicion of malignancy
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.
1. A BIRADS 4 on ultrasound scan refers to a suspicious malignancy. The features on the images are highly irregular and your doctors have rightly given it a BIRADS 4 grading.
2. BIRADS 4 is also sub classified as a, b or c with 4a being relatively low level of suspicion and 4c having highest suspicion of malignancy. Your lesion appears to be 4 c.
3. A taller than wide lesion has about 75 percent chances of malignancy. In other words 3 out of 4 chances are that the biopsy might show a malignancy.
4. It will help to know if you have a history of breast malignancies in your maternal side including mother, sisters and grandmother. Any lymph node found in the armpit is also significant and should be investigated in detail.
5. Even if it is found to be a malignancy, there is no need to worry. I have served as a cancer radiologist for years in a cancer institute. I have seen many patients being detected early and have made complete recovery after taking treatment.
Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Cancer of breast is usually ductal or lobular types
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.
1. The only other cause close to mass will be an inflammation. However this causes symptoms like acute tenderness over the breast. I do not think you have any inflammatory signs over the affected breast.
2. The breast is made of lobules and ducts surrounded by fatty tissue. In cancer, there is abnormality in the lobules and ducts. The 3 most common types of cancer in breast are
(i) Duct carcinoma in situ
(ii) Invasive ductal carcinoma
(iii) Lobular carcinoma
3. The duct carcinoma in situ is an early stage and has the chances of complete recovery with recommended treatment.
Hope your query is answered.
