What Do Small Lesions In Pubic Region Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 2 Oct 2014
Question: I work in Submarine, 30 yr , Male,
My history : I am seeing multiple small lesions on my pubic region. 10-12 in number, all measuring from 1 mm to 3 mm diameter, No pain, No pus nor water filled. Hard(mild to medium hard, not too hard), pictures are attachment. Some are reddish some are skin colored.
Since I work in Offshore Submarine, here we don't get our under garments washed on regular basis. I was wearing same underwear for a long time (week) without washing. and also note that i tried to shave my pubic hair just 2 days ago, but since the shaving blade was not sharp enough (used several times before) I could not shave it properly and I am seeing these lesions immediately after 2-3 days of shaving that area. And seeing these lesions only in the area I tried to shave.

i had unprotected sex with my regular sex partner (Wife) before joining my duty some 15-20 days ago.

Please give me a -- Diagnosis , Treatment and also Advise whether it is communicable / Do my wife also need any treatment.

Thank you

Brief Answer:
"Molluscum contagiosum" :simple viral infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for posting your query to the forum.

I can understand your concern for the lesions on pubic region. I have analyzed all the pictures with complete diligence and after analysis let me first and foremost relax you that the eruptions are due to simple treatable viral infection and therefore you need not to be worried about the same.

Let me tell you that the lesions are known as "Molluscum contagiosum" which are due to simple viral infection. It is very simple infection and can be treated very easily. It needs cauterization under expert direction by radio-frequency or can be removed by an extractor too. For the above you can meet a dermatologist.

These are communicable and an be spread by skin to skin contact. SO just check whether your wife also have the same.

Do not pinch, pop or scratch the area. Keep the area dry and wear cotton clothes. Change the undergarments two time a day. Do not get exposed to extremes of environment and protect yourself from further infection. Just check for any similar tiny eruptions in your partner.

I hope these informations will relax you. I will be glad to guide you any further.

Brief Answer:
Molluscum contagiosum: can be treated easily

Detailed Answer:
Hello young fellow,

Welcome back to the forum. Let me again reassure you that your condition is a very simple infection which can be treated easily.

Regarding your further queries:

1.     I suggest my patients to abstain from sex only because of the reason that by skin to skin contact there is friction which causes further spread. So in your case also I suggest you to either abstain from sex or prefer the position where there should be least skin to skin contact.

2.     There is no problem in case if you are planning. There is no effect of molluscum contagiosum on growing fetus. As I told you that the infection is one of the simplest viral infection and very easily treatable so there is no effect on fetus or health of the female who is carrying the baby. Therefore you can plan according to your convenience.

3.     For the part of removal- it is not necessary to go for laser removal only. It can be done by simple extraction or by radio-frequency ablation. I have my colleague Dermatologist in Navi XXXXXXX If you want you can talk to her and ask for an appointment or can search for a good dermatologist near your place. In my clinical settings I charge around Rs.150-200 per lesion. So you can get an idea for the number of lesion you have. It might be varying slightly as per different dermatologists.

Over all I fully reassure you that your condition is one of the simplest viral infection and if I would have been your treating dermatologist then would have cured you within 2-3 weeks.

I hope these informations will relax you. I will be glad to guide you any further.
