What Do My Ultrasound Scan Reports Indicate?

default
Posted on Wed, 31 May 2017
Question: I am married on March 8, 2017. Same night I had sex with my wife (first time). After 6 weeks we took ultrasound scan which said my baby age / conception date on March 1, 2017. After 8 weeks we took ultrasound scan which said my baby age / conception date on February 24, 2017. How this can be possible ? We had first time sex on March 8 only.

Brief Answer:
Ultrasound dated age of your baby is not 100% confirmatory.

Detailed Answer:
Hello..
Thanks for trusting the health care magic doctors for your health related queries..

Firstly i want to tell you that ultrasound gestational age estimation of the baby is not 100% confirmatory. It is changing with every time u will be going to do.

The most confirmatory thing is your wife last menstrual period (LMP), if your wife having regular periods then gestational age of your baby according to her LMP is more accurate.

so, don't rely on the ultrasound dating of your baby.

advice-
1. relax, first confirm your wife LMP then calculate the age of your baby, it is more accurate.
2. if you are still in doubt then visit your treating doctor and discuss with them. he/she can help you.

good luck.

Dear Dr XXXXXXX

Thanks for the detail.

Normally persons say that ultrasound scan age will be less than the actual age of baby. But in my case, it is saying 2 weeks more than the wedding date (we had first intercourse). Is it still possible like this ?

My wife says her LMP is Feb 26th 2017.
Our wedding date is 8th March 2017.
Every time Ultra Sound Scan says conception date before March 1st.
