What Do My Lab Test Reports Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 27 Aug 2015
Question: I had a brain stem/spinal cord tumor removed from C1-C3 in April of this year. The post op MRI showed a new lesion at T1. I was referred to an MS neurologist who is suggesting TM or MS. I have no brain lesions and 3 obands showed up in my CSF, along with a high HSV1 level and very high WBC. The MS doctor wants to start treating me for MS, but I don't feel good about it. The surgeon that removed the spinal cord "neoplasm of uncertain behavior" (Dr. XXXXXXX Spetzler, Barrows) believes it was a neurosarcoiditis. Is there any way someone there can look at my MRI and spinal tap results and give me a second opinion before I start on all this MS medication?

Brief Answer:
MS unlikely.Revise with biopsy result.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Madam,

I understand your concern.

I have gone through your reports.

The possibility of MS seems unlikely at the moment.

Only biopsy can provide conclusive reports.

Even HSV 2 needs second testing to demonstrate a 4 fold rise in titre at least 4 weeks apart.

HSV is known to cause Hemorrhagic Infarction of the brain, the clinical symptoms are absent in your case.

Oligoclonal bands alone does not represent MS.

One has to assume this lesion at T 1 as a tumor relapse unless otherwise proved.

Hence a biopsy report is mandate.

Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.
