Brief Answer:
talk with his doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome in HCM

I am sorry for your the situation of your dad and i can understand your concern.

According to the history you provide it seems that he is suffering from fourth stage lung cancer. In such conditions we usually recommend steroids i/v,oxygen therapy if needed and painkillers id he has pain .

Black stools are called melena in medical language.

It means that there is blood coming from gastrointestinal tract mainly from the stomach .

This is an emergency and he needs to do a gastroscopy to find the place where blood comes and to try to stop it. If the blood continues than the patient becomes anemic and probably needs hemotransfusion.

So it would be better to discuss with his treating doctor for actual situation.
