Question: I have a rapid pulse problem but no heart palpitations. Today my pulse is 123. I had a complete heart workup and nothing out of the ordinary showed up. This is the highest its gone.

Brief Answer:
I would recommend as follows

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Regarding your concern, I would explain that a rapid heart rate could be related to different possible causes: anxiety, physical activity, an electrolyte imbalance, thyroid gland dysfunction, anemia etc.

For this reason, I would recommend performing some tests:

- An ambulatory 24-48 hours ECG monitoring to investigate for possible cardiac arrhythmia
- Complete blood count for anemia
- Thyroid hormone levels for thyroid dysfunction
- Blood electrolytes for possible imbalances.

If you experience complaints like palpitations or shortness of breath, starting a beta-blocker would help improve your situation.

You should discuss with your doctor about the above tests.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

I remain at your disposal for any further questions whenever you need!

Kind regards,

Dr.Iliri

I do have hypothyroidism but that is checked regularly. I don't have anemia because my oncologist checks my blood every month. So do you think I should ask my primary about the other two tests?

I already wrote one 42 minutes ago so now it is my bedtime.

Brief Answer:
I would recommend as follows

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I am glad that you do not have anemia and your thyroid gland function is stable.

Anyway, I would recommend discussing with your doctor on performing the 24-48 hours ECG monitoring in order to investigate for possible cardiac arrhythmia.

If the above test is normal, and you continue to have palpitations or shortness of breath, starting a beta blocker may be needed.

Hope to have been helpful!

Wishing all the best,

Dr. Iliri
