Posted on Mon, 5 Jan 2015
Question: hi..I had an unprotected sex on 5/dec/14 with my gf...but within 72 hours, she has taken i-pill.. 2 days after taking the pill, she is having white discharge and little bit of blood spotting 2 times only..after then nothing happened.. please suggest me what should i do? since proper bleeding has not started yet and she has an abdominal pain also (so is it a sign of pregnancy or pill has done its work and it is not mandatory to have bleeding?)

Brief Answer:
Can be due to ipill

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

I have read your query and what I understood from your query is : You had unprotected intercourse on 5th December and she had pill within 72 hours.
After 2 days she had white discharge with spotting twice and stopped. Bleeding not started yet and she has abdominal pain.

Now come to the point: All her symptoms could be due to side effects of i pill which can cause vaginal spotting or withdrawal bleeding, stomach cramps and delayed periods.

I pill can prevent pregnancy 98% if you had pill within 24 hours.

To rule out pregnancy first I would like to know few details:
What is her last menstrual period date or due date?
Does she have regular periods?
Have you had i pill within 24 hours?

Kindly get back to me with details.

Thank you

Hello Doctor,

her last menstrual period was started on 23 nov.

she had regular period till 5th october(which is her actual month period cycle), but on october 17 she took i-pill, and bleeding started from 20th october..then after she had period on 23 nov.

now she has taken pill on 7 december. (we had unprotected intercourse on 5th december afternoon and she has taken pill on 7th december evening {nearly 51 hours after) .

till now she does not have vaginal bleeding (it is just spotting 2 times only and white liquid discharge for 2 days)

Brief Answer:
Wait for periods

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

Thanks for your information.

I pill may delay or make periods come early, may be because of this reason she had periods early in October. After that she got on 23 rd November.

According to last two cycles she may get periods around 3rd or 4th week of December.
You had unprotected intercourse on 5th December which falls around her ovulation period (According to her last date). She had pill after 51 hours that means i pill prevents 50-60% chance of pregnancy so still chance of pregnancy is there since you had unprotected intercourse during ovulation time.

I suggest you wait for her periods until next week 23rd December if she will not get periods then get urine pregnancy test after 5 days of missed date.
Do not take mental stress, it may delay your periods. Do not take any hormonal medications.
If you have any queries I will be happy to help you.

Thank you.

Hello Doctor,

After taking i-pill she had white discharge and little bit of blood spotting, but not proper vaginal bleeding. Can you please tell me what does this means ( does it mean that pill has done its work or there may be chances of pregnancy) . Please enlighten.

Brief Answer:
Spotting due to i pill

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

I apologize for delayed response.

Blood spotting can be due to I pill since it is most common side effect of I pill.

It is unlikely implantation bleeding. Implantation bleeding occurs after 10-12 days of ovulation

Even though it shows side effects, sometime pregnancy will continue. 30% chances of pregnancy are there because you had pill after 51 hours which increases chances.
I am not saying she can be pregnant, I am saying 30% chance is there to become pregnant. Mostly test will be negative.

Since you had intercourse during her ovulation periods and had pill after 51 hours it is difficult to say that there is no chance of pregnancy.

Only thing we need to wait for her periods.

Once again I apologize for delayed response.

If you have any queries I will be happy to help you.

Thank you.
