What Causes Weight Gain And Fatigue After A Thyroid Surgery?

Question: I had thyroid surgery 1 year ago ( XXXXXXX ) . Since that time I have gained30 lbs. Iam constantly tried ( fatigued) hoarse,TSH test normal. What should I do?

Can I take Actalin while taking 125 mcg of Synthroid ?

I am sorry to hear about your complaints.

If the TSH is normal it is extremely unlikely that the thyroid is responsible for your symptoms.

Have you been tested for other common conditions that can cause weight gain and fatigue, such as anemia and liver/kidney problems

Tests like CBC, CMP and 25 hydroxy vitamin D are useful in this regard.

There are some rare causes of weight gain such as Acromegaly and Cushings syndrome but they are best assessed in person because the testing is complex and can be expensive

Actalin is not recommended for the treatment of hypothyroidism, and to my knowledge there are no published studies in medical literature that have looked at the combined use of actalin and synthroid.
I do not recommend actalin to any of my patients.
