What Causes Weakness In Thighs Of A Stage 4 Breast Cancer Patient?

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Jun 2016
Question: Sure hope you can. I have sjogrens, had stage 4 breast cancer (now cancer free), had a double bypass last Feb. But my problem is that the thigh of my leg does not have any strength, making it all but impossible for me to get from a sitting to standing position. There is nothing that hurts but I am 71 years old and have never broken a bone or anything. My doc says I have an arthritis in my knee but they work fine and do not hurt. Where do I go from here?

Brief Answer:
See a Rheumatologist!

Detailed Answer:
HI and thank you so much for this query.

I have reviewed this information fully and it is suggestive of possible loss of muscle mass of the thighs which explains the lack of power to rise from sitting position. This is related to myositis. I will recommend that you see a rheumatologist for proper evaluation. If need be, a sample of muscle tissue from the thighs can be analysed in the lab to pinpoint the exact cause of this muscle weakness and address accordingly. Most often, an autoimmune process is responsible for this or could be severe tissue loss from underuse.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
