What Causes Vertical White Flashing On Peripheral Vision Of Left Eye?

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Mar 2016
Question: I have some vertical white flashing on the peripheral vision on the left side of my left eye. It is somewhat intermittent. Looks something like someone waving a flashlight up and down. I only see it when it's dark or my eyes are closed and seems to occur when I move my head or move my eyes. I am 63 years old and my vision has always (& remains) good, other than needing glasses. I have had annual eye exams but have not had one in 2 years. I will call my doctor on Monday but would like to know if this sounds like an emergency?
Please advise

Brief Answer:
There seems to be no emergent situation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing.

I am Dr.Muhammad Ahmad. I have read your question completely, i understand your concern and will try to help you in best way possible.

I have seen the picture , it's so full of life keep smiling , plus there is nothing wrong with your eyes externally as far as i can see i the picture.

Knowing your symptoms there seems nothing to worry about ,this flashing might just be nothing, eye is filled with a gello liquid called vitrious humor some disturbance in this liquid can cause impurities in field of vision but they are usuall temporary.

Usually such issues get resolved on their own without any treatment.
In my opinion there is no emergency in this case to visit you doctor. You can contact your doctor on monday and discuss about how you can procede. An eye examination will rule out many things.

Till then i would suggest you to keep your eyes away from dust, bright lights and flashes.
This seems just fine .

I hope this answered your question, a
if you have more please feel free to ask.

Regrads.
