default
Posted on Thu, 30 Jun 2016
Question: Hi. I am a 41 year old male. When I urinate my right foot tingles. Been doing that for the last month or so. I have been dealing with torticollis for the last 2 years but I don't think there is any connection there.

Brief Answer:
Consultation

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. Such type of sensation occurring only while doing urinate can be due to

: Micturition syncope - It is a autonomic disturbance in which syncope like symptoms appear while doing micturition. It manifests as numbness, tingling sensation in limbs, fainting, fall, light headedness, vertigo, weakness in body.
If you have clearly noted these symptoms only with micturition, it can be due to it. You need to consult doctor to rule out these causes which can cause it.

Alcohol - Excessive drinking
Hunger
Fatigue
Dehydration - Due to work, exertion
Medical conditions, such as a respiratory infection
Use of alpha blockers like Prazosin/Tamsulosine tablets to improve urination
Diabetes Mellitus

The doctor will examine your autonomic system and investigate for
: Blood sugar
: Prostate
: Chest X Ray for respiratory disease

Treatment will be given after confirming cause.

Another cause could be
: Torticollis with cervical cord compression which increases while doing micturition. It can happen while you stand in particular posture which lead to increase in compression over cord.

It can also manifest as sever neck pain, weakness in limbs, incontinence. You need to consult neurosurgeon who will examine your nervous system and do investigations like
: MRI cervical spine
: X ray cervical spine in AP/lateral

Treatment is usually postural correction, neck collar, avoiding weight lifting.

Meanwhile at home, you should
: Drink plenty of water to keep you hydrated
: Avoid neck tilt/extreme neck movement
: You can take neutron specific vitamins like B12, B6, Pantothenic acid, Folic acid after proper prescription.
: You can take tablet Pregabaline/Gabapentine after proper prescription. It will relieve tingling.

Hope it will help you. If still in doubt, do let me know, I would be happy to help.

Thanks. Take care.
