What Causes Throat Irritation After Having A Fish Bone Stuck In Throat?

default
Posted on Thu, 18 Sep 2014
Question: HI Doctor,
On 10th of this month i had fish bone stuck in my throat. I had vomiting but still had pain. so i consulted an ENT specialist for this and he had done direct laryngoscopy and he told me that there was nothing inside. So, he gave me 3 tablets for 5 days ie., azitrovista 500 mg(azitromicin),omez d and becon(multi vitamin tablet). After i had these tablets for 5 days my throat infection got reduced but i still had the same felling that there was something stuck in my throat. So i tried to spray some volini from outside on that neck part. In the mean time i was eating all kinds of food that i eat normally from 11th of this month (chiken, chapati, roti, rice, spicey food etc). After few days i felt like my head is shaking and cannot stand. This was temporary. After spraying volini on that part where i felt that there was fish bone. i felt like vomiting after eating only. but nothing before eating. So i tried to vomit and i used to get mucus out but not food. So i consulted the doctor again and he asked me to go for flexible endcosopy to check if still i have the same fish bone stuck inside my mouth. But as there was no proper diagnostic center in my town i went to banglore to St Johns hospital and consulted an ENT. so till 18th of this month i had this vomiting situation so i stopped eating from 19th and was having only apple juice. On 19th, i went to banglore to consult ENT, he made me to drink some local anastesia and then sprayed some liquid into mouth and did rigid larngyscopy and then found nothing inside my neck. Doc then asked me to take X ray and CT scan and the result was same. and so he confirmed that there was no fish bone. In the mean time i was not able to sit as i was feeling guddines and was not able to walk or climb stairs and felt very weak. But after taking anestisa into my mouth that reflux got down and i felt normal without fish bone. so i was continuning with my die ie., idli, apple juice, coffee and tea. Next day i felt that there was stiffness on my left side of the chest near heart and also shortness of breath and felt very weak and giddiness and so i was hospitalised. Doctors gave me sodium chloride drip. few injections and then asked me to eat and i was under observation for a day. In this period i was given following tablets and injections ecosprin 150mg,clopilet 75mg,atorva40mg,pantocid40mg,emeset 4mg,dls 5cc, dls10cc,gel tube 3.5ml,edta and i was monitered for one day they did blood test, ecg, tmt, urine test and told me that everything looks normal and so i was out of hospital the next day. After this i was not having any issues but about 3 days back i could see a rash on my right thigh. i am including the pic of this. My question is is this due to any side effect of the medicines or due to any kind of viruses like hiv or anything (i mean symptoms(this is my doubt ) etc. This rash is itching when i touch it sometimes and sometimes it does not and when i felt it for the first time it was itching and irritaing as if something just brushed my skin after that now there is no itching and irrtation though i touch it . please do suggest me. Thank u. i dont know wat to do right now.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. If repeated endoscopies, X-ray and a CT Scan have failed to visualize the fish bone, then it is the injury from the fish bone that causes the throat irritation.

2. Continue the treatment for reflux. Discontinue al other medication.

3. Apply an ointment containing a combination of an antibiotic, anti-fungal and a steroid (such as Betnovate GM) to the area of the rash which seems to be excoriation of the skin caused by scratching. It is healing. If it increases, get an opinion from a Skin Specialist.

I hope that I have answered your queries. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

How ever my question is not about the reflux and throat irritation as they are healed but my question is about the rash that is formed on my leg i was in a doubt if this is caused by any kind of viruses ( hiv )or side effect of the medicine because i read from the internet that they are the symptoms and can be caused on any part of the body.. so i was afraid about the rash. Thank u for the advice in advance. It is not increasing at all. But i could some times feels its itching. i want to know if this is not from any kind of virus (hiv) or not. thank u

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for writing back.

1. This is a simple excoriation (rash) and is healing well. This is not a viral/ HIV related or a drug induced rash.

2. The itching is a sign of healing. There is no cause for worry.

I hope that I have answered your queries. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
