No it has nothing to do with the previous episode of last year. It is an independent event this time and altogether a new illness episode.

Reason:-
You have got acute Pharyngitis (the throat infection). It may be Viral in the start and get secondarily infected by the bacteria or it may be the bacterial pharyngitis right away.

Management:-
You need to take an antibiotics course. If I was your treating physician I would have prescribed you with Azithromycin antibiotic if not allergic to plus Ibuprofen, Claritin, and a multivitamin.


Remedies:-
Keep the oral hygiene.
Keep away from any type of allergens like pollens, colognes, pets inside the house, animal dander etc.
Take a Warm Mist Humidifier and apply vicks pads in it. Keep it on in bedroom for peaceful sleep and a clear airway with soothing respiration.
Balanced diet and plenty of water.
Gargles with any suitable mouthwash like Listerine or Scope.
Take proper rest for fast recovery.
