default
Posted on Wed, 24 Jun 2015
Question: Since it has been warm my ankles have swelling up. This happens lot when it gets warm here in XXXXXXX State, however I've felt some numbness as I walk it does not hurt but it is concerning I've been diagnosed with pre-diabetes and I'm morbidly obese. Eventually the puffiness, swelling goes down when I have myl legs elevated. So is it just the warm weather or do I need to start taking some meds? I'm already on a blood thinner, cholesterol, lisinpril/hctz
as well. Your comments would be appreciated.

Brief Answer:
Most likely vein problem, also heart issue possible

Detailed Answer:
Dear patient,

your description of swollen legs in warm weather would most likely fit a problem with your veins, like varicose or vein insufficiency. This is best to be ruled out by ultrasound of the veins, which i would do if you were my patient.
Also an underlying heart condition needs to be ruled out though since that can add to it, i would check that with EKG and possibly heart ultrasound. After testing it is possible to get diuretics prescribed to give you some relief.
The numbness can be an additional nerve problem, which could be associated with diabetes, which i would usually have tested with a standardized tuning fork vibration test, which a gp or neurologist could do.

Hope this is helping you , if you have any clarifications you can get back to me, if this was helpful please kindly rate my answer. Best regards
