What Causes Swelling Up Of Lips?

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Dec 2014
Question: New question:

I had mild attacks of swollen lips .. a couple of times. I'm unable to zero down the actual food item. I don't see a patter in the food causing this. Are there any medical test that I can get done to figure out this? I'm 35 years .. can this allergic reaction happen to someone all of a sudden at 35 years? I never had any issues since childhoold. Why suddenly?

I had a similar "allergic" reaction today early morning - I had an itching sensation around my neck and my wrist .. so, couldn't resist from scratching/rubbing ... "hive" like patterns were formed immediately ... i did not take any food ... i just had a glass of water on empty stomach.

Is this also related to the same allergic? then, why does it happen even i don't take any food?

Is this benadryl syrup suggested .. same as the regular Benadryl cough syrup? If so, should i go for dry/wet?

Thanks for your time.

Thanks,

XXXX

--------- Earlier query, from me, on HealthCareMagic --------

Immediately after dinner yesterday, my upper got swollen. And, it has been like it from the past 12 hours. I had this experience a couple of times - in the last 2 years. This situation occurs to me once in 5-6 months. And, the swelling remains for 3-4 hours. But, this time it has been there 12 hrs and still not gone. I've not tried any medication. I don't have any allergic history. I do eat all food and vegetables. I cannot associate this with the food i take as this doesn't happen when i eat something new!

I'm current on a US business visit. So, I cannot visit a doctor.

Help me.

Brief Answer:
It is most probably allergy

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

You have swollen upper lip after dinner. You have not mentioned if you have any other symptoms. From your description, this seems like allergy, most probably to nuts but can be something else like fish. Let me know if you have any other symptoms.

Sometimes allergy may happen to foods that you already include in your diet.

Take an antiallergic medicine like benadryl syrup. It is available overthecounter. If antiallergic medicine helps, then it is most probably allergy.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Brief Answer:
Need evaluation by An allergist

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

I have gone through your query and seen image as well.

It seems like allergy or anaphylactic reaction.

Yes, it can possible to develop allergic reaction at your age or in adults.
It may be due change of environment or new food or sea foo, pollen, mold, animals, perfumes and soap or detergents.
Some people may have allergy in childhood but shows up when you expose more to that allergen.

Yes, there are medical test to rule out this.

I suggest you visit an Allergist/Immunologist or visit an allergy clinic.
Doctor would order for investigations like skin tests, prick test and blood test to know the source of allergy.

Meanwhile I suggest you Antihistamines like Levocetrizine with Montelukast combination once a day. You can get this local doctor prescription.

I have seen your location as XXXXXXX if it so,
Here I have given link of one hospital
