Question: Hi I am 42 and recently had a circumcision (2 weeks ago). Straight after the op I was very swollen and bruised, this has since gone down however the skin at the base of the glands is still fairly swollen and I am unable to pull back to reveal the stitches (if they have not already dissolved). The first week I was fine but in the second week I have a bleed coming between the glands and skin (top of penis) I can't see if this is from the incision, if I clean the area it will stop bleeding but if I walk about or during a nightly erection it will bleed. I also did notice that the blood the other day seemed a bit darker will a few little clots as though it had been collecting. Is this something that can be managed at home as I have to go to my GP to be referred back to the urologist which could take a while?

As detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the images.
These show edema of the skin without much redness.
I would advise you the following in such a situation since it has already been 2 weeks for surgery:
Consult your GP, discuss the issues that you have and be examined.
Take an anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen if it suits you in proper dosages.
Apply Liquid Povidone iodine locally to ward off infection.
Ask you Doctor to give some prescription based medications like Amitriptyline to be taken at night to avoid erections. This helps in reducing the edema and early recovery. Antibiotic if there is an evidence of an infection.

All these things should help you to have reduced edema and proper healing and in the meantime ask for a referral for the Urologist. Better be seen by the Urologist if needed.
I hope this answer helps you.
Get these things done and give feedback.

I am a 42 year old healthy female that eats right, excercises regularly and doesn t smoke. In 2008 I had a manometry at the Cleveland Clinic after suffering significant chest pain once every couple months after the birth of my second child. I was diagnosed with Nutracker Esophagus. Everything I read states it does not progress, however, I am living proof that I have had episodes occuring much more regularly over the past couple months. They have been occuring as close as 2-4 x a week and lasting up to 3 days in total. There is no rhyme or reason as to what I do, eat or the amount of stress I am under when the episodes occur. I had another EGD at the Clinic 4 days ago and nothing has really changed in the appearance of my esophagus. I do not have trouble swallowing or have any food flowing back up, just severe pain which ends up extending through my arms, neck and turns into a headache during each episode. I am in such severe pain with these episodes that I m wandering what can help me and what is causing this. The doctors said that Ibuprofen will not work, but again, it has worked occassionally with the pain. I am seeing a specialist, same doctor who did my manometry, on this Tuesday who may put me on muscle relaxers or something...but what if that doesn t help? do I know for sure there isn t something else going on here?

I was sunburned 1 week ago tomorrow severely on both of my legs and the top of my feet. The swelling has subsided but every time I stand my feet turn purple and hurt terribly. I am using silvadene cream, ibuprofen, elevating my feet and cold compresses and the pain is still there. Is there any more I can do?

I was circumcised this morning and I'm terrified of going to bed. Is there anything I can do to take the edge off the pain?I've taken some painkillers (2x50mg paracetamol, 40mg ibuprofen and some codeine phosphate tablets) and read about wearing tighter, more supportive bedclothes. For further information, I just took the dressing off from around my penis and there was a fair bit of blood from near one of the stitches. Half an hour or so with some tissue paper and reasonable pressure has stopped the flow, but I worry that if (or, more likely, when) I get an erection in my sleep, it might start to bleed again.

i have routine blood work done yearly and last month my GFR came back 59, HCT 31, nml w/ cr 1.0. i have markers for sjogrens, not clinical diagnosis, chol 203, hdl 54, ldl 110 triglycerides 88 and BP is 110/70 s ballpark average, microprotein 44 in urine from 4 last sept. i have no other healthproblems. repeat GFR 58, HCT 37 bun/cr same, chol level same but CO2 20, and microprotein is down to 8 in urine (cut protein down to minimum..i was big protein eater). i am worried about GFR. only thing i can think of that could have caused this is taking ibuprofen/benadryl during a 3 week period when i broke my rib prior to having labs drawn..and i took the ibuprofen regularly. i drink lots of water always. also since feb, i have increased exercise phenomenally. is it possible to turn this GFR around? and how quick does kidney failure take? am i on a downward spiral? i have next appt w/ Primary doc in 1 month, am repeating labs til then. what can i do that i am not doing to retard/repair circumstances? is it permanent damage?..
