What Causes Swelling In The Ankles While On Amlodipine?

default
Posted on Wed, 7 Jun 2017
Question: I have just switched from Amlodipine 5 mg daily to treat hypertension to Irbesartan 150 mg. Daily I had problems with swelling ankles and feet on Amlodipine. I am only taking 75 mg of irbesartan because my blood pressure was too low. Currently is 120/70. I am tired with low energy on this new drug and know this is a side effect. Will this side effect go away? I'm normally a very active person, exercise regularly and am not overweight.

Brief Answer:
Will continue as long you are using the same dose

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms, I have gone through your question and I understand your concerns but unfourtanetly ibesartan has a mechanism of action that tends to decrease blood pressure in a more rapid and aggressive form than Amlodipine. This leads to the sense of fatigue and lightheadedness . Unfortunately this continues as long as you use it in the same dosage and will decrease only if further reduction of the dose occur . I hope I answered your question.
