What Causes Swelling, Bruising And Tenderness Around A Cut?

default
Posted on Tue, 16 Jun 2015
Question: I cut myself fairly deep on the top of my middle finger. It was an impactful hit to my finger. It bled and then bruised. The cut healed but it is very sore still almost a month later. Also, there is a knot that has formed under my skin where it was cut. It doesn't seem like scar tissue, it seems more hard. It hurts when tapped by accident. It is generally sensitive to pressing gently on it as well.

Brief Answer:
Cut wound

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

It is usual for a cut wound to have sensitivity for almost 4-6 months, it is because of two things.
1. Nerve ending being cut and they are now re growing
2. Granulomatous tissue ( new skin and fascia) can give rise to pain

There is no specific treatment for this however in severe cases we prescribe Pregabalin 75 mg once in the night. This reduces the nerve pain significantly. Gradually this pain will subside.

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me.

I would also like to take a look at the wound, could you please get back to me with a picture. Your description is very thorough but it is very hard to imagine. Please attach a photo if possible

Regards

I have now uploaded a photo into my reports. I'm not sure how else to attach images. I tried to upload two but it seems that the uploader would only accept one of them. You can see the knot very slightly in the photo. On the top of that finger, you can still see the faint pink skin where the cut was and is now healed.

Hello

Thanks for getting back with the photo. It looks like the wound has healed well. Please give it sometime for the pain to subside. I dont feel any active intervention is required at the moment.
