What Causes Swelling And Pain In Penis Post Application Of A Topical Antibiotic?

default
Posted on Sat, 19 Mar 2016
Question: My husband had neck fusion surgery on Dec.31. Everything neck wise seems to be going good. They gave me some paste to put on his penis while in the hospital because he was using a urinal all the time. For the past couple of days the foreskin has swollen all up around the penis and it even hurts him to try and get the penis out. Do you think he has an allergic reaction to the medicine?

Brief Answer:
Could you pls attach clear images of the region to our discussion

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. The paste or gel that you applied over his penis was possibly either a lubricant or a topical antibiotic to prevent infections which are quite common with the symptom of frequent urination.

I would also suspect a urinary tract infection in such a scenario, and the swelling and/or redness of the penis head could be associated with this infection which will require antibiotic coverage. But to rule out an allergy I would prefer examining the region visually, and so if you do not mind please do attach clear images of the region to our discussion or email them to me at:

YYYY@YYYY

but please do not forget to mention "ATTN: Dr. Shoaib Khan" in the subject line so it can be directed to me.

I look forward to hearing from you in order to helping you further.

Best wishes.
