Brief Answer:
Can be a soft tisuue injury.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The presence of swelling and hardness in the area of fall can be due to a hematoma formation in the area. If there is no problem in walking or the knee does not feel unstable on climbing stairs then there is no need to worry.
The swelling that you have is suggestive of an internal bleeding. It will gradually subside in 2-3 weeks. Do watch for any increase in pain or the size of swelling in which case it is advisable to consult an orthopedician to rule out an infection.
I hope this answers your query.
