What Causes Sweating, High Anxiety And Dizziness After Taking Fluvoxine?

Question: Hello Doctor,
I am suffering with phobia. I have been prescribed with Fluvoxine 50 (half tablet twice for first 7 days and 1 tablet twice for next 7 days), Betcap 20 (Twice daily), Rivotril 0.5 (one daily), Cipralex 10 (half tablet twice for first 7 days and 1 tablet twice for next 7 days) and Razo 20 (One daily).

I took one dose of the above mentioned tablets and suffered with severe sweating, high anxiety, dizziness, hand and legs tremors and severe tingling in hands and legs. After that I stopped the dose and now its been 3 days I stopped.

Request you to suggest how to proceed with the medicines. Thank You.

This is side effect of fluvoxamine

Thanks for using healthcaremagic.

What you experienced following your first dose is side effect of fluvoxamine. This is usual side effect during first week of treatment.

There are three options for you to proceed with current medication.
1. You can proceed without fluvoxamine with consultation of your psychiatrist as there is another medicine from same class to take care of your phobic symptoms. Both cipralex and fluvoxamine are having similar action and useful in phobia.

2. Secondly you can decrease the dose of fluvoxamine further with help of your psychiatrist if he considers it essential for you.

3. If your psychiatrist thinks that dose he prescribed is essential of both cipralex and fluvoxamine in that case dose of rivotril can be increased for first one week to control the anxiety symptoms

Thank You for your reply.

Actually the pscyhiatrist whom I visited in another station and I stay in XXXXXXX I am unable to reach him. I have not yet taken Rivotril. Does Rivotril minimises the side effects? Can I restart the medications again now?

Please suggest. I cannot reach my psychiatrist. I can visit him in another 15 days only. Thank You.

Since he prescribed rivotril to you you can go for rivotril along with other medicines. Rivotril minimizes side effects. I assume he took all consideration of side effects as well positive effects of rivotril along with other medicines. It is an anti anxiety medicine and helps in controlling anxiety symptoms.

Hello Doctor,

Thank You for your reply. I am having severe dizziness hence bit worried in taking all these medications. I am bit scared with side effects. Its been now 10 days I am out of office. From tomorrow I should go to office, does these side effects will impact me going to office? Bit worried. Please suggest.

I recently started practising yoga and meditation. Can I continue exercise, yoga etc?

Thanks for your feedback.

I understand your concern but you need some time to stabilize medication before visiting office. Since you have severe side effect with first dose there is possibility of side effects on next dose. As i said earlier there are the side effects which occur during first week of treatment and may continue for one week.

In my view you need some time before you visit your office after starting medication. I hope rivotril will minimize those side effects but there is possibility that you will get some sedation even on the next day of rivotril.
This is also advisable to not to drive after this medication till you are sure that you are not feeling sleepy.

Meditation and yoga enhance the effect of your medication and they are good thing to practice for control of your phobic symptoms. Definitely you need to continue them.
