What Causes Stomach Pain After Eating?

default
Posted on Thu, 26 Jun 2014
Question: My husband is 89 and is getting stomach pain when he eats anything. It comes about 1/2 hour after eating and has been happening since it started Tuesday morning. He also feels puny. Light headed until I took Oxygen & it was 88 so I put his oxygen on usually only for night use. He has an appointment with his primary tomorrow @ 10:00 am. What do I need to watch for in case it's his heart?

Brief Answer:
Be careful with foods/drinks,monitor vital signs..

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through the medical history of your husband and feel sorry for the situation he is in.

Getting stomach pain each time he eats might be a sign of stoma issues:
- gastritis
- acid reflux

I highly advise to :
- be careful with foods/drinks you give him
- avoid carbonated drinks
- avoid spicy, chillies, fatty, too sugary foods
- give him more liquid foods than solids (e.g. soups)
- observe his vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, breathing rate)

If you notice anything unusual or his symptoms will worsen, then, should call emergency for immediate medical assistance.

Otherwise, be careful with foods/drinks you give him and monitor his vital signs until the next appointment with his doctor tomorrow.

All the best!

Hi Dr. Sejdini,
Thank you for answering my question. I am relieved it's probably not his heart. Yesterday morning he ate a banana and got a tummy ache. He felt real poorly and laid down. Then later he wanted a hot dog. I tried to talk him into something less fatty, but he wanted a hot dog. He ate it with potato salad and had no problems. I was surprised as that was the first thing he ate that didn't give him a tummy ache. It may be the Guarana. I withheld it yesterday and his calcium, tart cherry, ginger and vitamin D 1000 ui. You probably won't believe me, but Dan's blood clots disappeared after taking two 500 mg tabs of Guarana for 2 1/2 weeks. He had an 18" clot in left thigh that had been there at least 6 years and one in right thigh that was there since 11-2012. That's 26" of clots gone for less than .99 cents! The vein clinic was shocked and Dr. asked what we did. Now I need to discern if the Guarana is the cause of tummy trouble. I hate to take him off it completely as he is inactive, doesn't drink much water and drinks a lot of alcohol every night. I will reintroduce Guarana tomorrow and if problems start in again I'll know it's the Guarana. Then we'll discuss what to do. I worry his clots may return with out Guarana. His lungs healed too. We nebulized colloidal silver 6 times between November when he was hospitalized coughing blood and Lung Dr. appt. in May. The shriveled area is back to normal functioning, elastic and exchanging oxygen. The spot on his lung they wanted to biopsy was gone too! I hope to keep XXXXXXX alive until he's at least 110 years old. His primary care Dr. is aware of all remedies we try. It seems that I will have to do non-western remedies to accomplish this. What are your thoughts?

Brief Answer:
Pay attention to possible undesirable side effects

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

I agree with your decisions to go for natural remedies for blood clots problems your husband is having. However, I advise to pay attention regarding side effects. I understand that your main aim is to resolve his problems. But, we want to achieve this effect with less side effects. In case side effects appear, then, should try other alternatives.

I am happy that you succeeded to dissolve his blood clots and healed his lungs. If Guarana is giving undesirable side effects, then, should try other alternatives.

Wish all the best to your husband and all of you!
