Question: I just visited myobgyn. I am 60 years old and have had some spotting post menopause. They did an ultrasound and found thickening of the uterine wall and 2 small polyps. I am to have a d and c to remove the polyps and check that there is no cancer. can polyps cause thickening of uterine wall?

Polyps are the overgrowth of uterine inner layer endometrium. These can cause thickening of uterine endometrium.
Spotting in postmenopausal age in your case is most probably due to polyps.

D and C willhelp in removal of polyp. The tissue will be sent for histopathologic examination to rule out endometrial cancer.

Although the most probable reason for spotting in your case would be polyp, but ruling out cancer is important to be on safe side.
