Brief Answer:
urinary tract infection or renal stones...

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

the symptoms you've described can be attributed to either a urinary tract infection (cystitis) or to renal stones having descended from the kidney to just before the entrance to the bladder. When stones are stuck there the patient feels sharp pain and urgency.

A urinalysis should make things more clear. A urinary tract infection will have characteristic findings like nitrates, white blood cells, perhaps some blood. A renal stone will have caused bleeding (even microscopic only) and the findings of cystitis should be lacking. In such a case a urinary tract ultrasound scan would be useful.

I hope you find my comments helpful!

Kind Regards!
