What Causes Severe Vomiting While On Paxil?

default
Posted on Fri, 2 Jun 2017
Question: I've been on Paxil for the past 2 years, last Sunday I vomited twice, coffee grounds. I have noticed tremors for the past week. I am an ER RN, so I looked up Paxil, and noticed these are or can be side effects of the drug. What can we do about this issue? Leslie

Brief Answer:
Are you on any other medication? Do you have stomach pain?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I have reviewed this information fully and it is for sure a possible side effect of paroxetine. The real issue is to determine whether this symptom is caused by this drug or something else. This side effect might be more common if you are on other medications such as MAO inhibitors. If you are on any, kindly report to me. Also, I will like to know the duration of this tremor, too.

If we conclude that this is for sure related to this paxil, then we would have to discontinue it and propose other options without a similar side effect profile that can be used to help address your disease condition. Can you also state for what precise reason you were give paxil as this drug is used to manage several different disease conditions? This will be helpful in proposing alternatives if that becomes necessary.

I hope to hear back from you and promise to continue this discussion.

Thank you for your answer. I take the Paxil for PTSD and depression. I take Lisonopril for HTN, I also take Temazapam for insomnia. Benedryl for seasonal allergies. HCTZ with the Lisinopril. My spouse died 2 years ago. That is when the depression started. xxxxxxxI have noticed just lately a discomfort in lower left abdomen at umbilical level to the far left.Noticed the tremor about 1 week ago.Are you still with me? xxxxxx

Brief Answer:
The duration isn't suggestive of paxil. Monitor again!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

The duration of tremors is so short compared to how much time you have spent taking paxil. I will not immediately attribute this to paxil though it is reported as a possible side effect. I will initially recommend we monitor and see if this persists or not. If it does, then we will proceed to investigating. How much coffee you take, do you smoke, etc. I will sprint to discontinuing this if no other possible explanation is gotten.

I hope this helps. Let me know what your take is and how the tremors are behaving as of today. Cheers

I am sure it is the peroxatine. I took 10mg of peroxatine this morning instead of 20mg. The tremors are less this evening. I drink about 4 glasses of tea during a 12 hour shift. I work nights. The coffee ground emesis is something totally new. It happened last Sunday. Have been taking antacids daily in case it was an ulcer, which I highly doubt. Leslie

Brief Answer:
YOu could actually be right and I will support you stay on 10mg!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

If a reduction saw significant reduction in tremors, then this sounds like very reliable evidence. I will suggest that continue with this and report the change and reasons why to your doctor.

Keep me posted as this progresses. Am always available for further exchanges.
