Brief Answer:
To find out the cause of the problem

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the query.
I understand your concern.
With increasing age, dryness of vaginal mucosa can occur, which can lead to itching.
Graves disease can also lead to generalized itching.
The possible steps that can help you are:
-Taking plenty of oral fluids.
-Using cotton inner wear, changing the inner wear twice a day.
-Changing the sanitary pads in every 6 to 7 hours during periods.
-Maintaing normal thyroid profile.
-Using local washes like easy wash, V wash etc to maintain normal vaginal flora.
If itching persists even after these measures or associated symptoms like vaginal discharge, smell etc appear, better to consult your doctor and get examined.
By clinical examination the possible cause of the problem can be identified and treated.
Some women can have menstrual periods in 50's also. But better to undergo ultrasound once to confirm internal normalcy.
Better not to use any cream without getting examined by the doctor, as that can lead to side effects or drug resistance.
Take care.
