What Causes Severe Pain After Urination?

Question: I go pee just fine and afterwards it hurts as if something is trying to come out. Like the feeling of when giving birth and the baby is ready. Very painful. What could it be?

You may also have frequent urinating, fever with this issue. Blood can be present in the urine. I suggest you to do not wait with it and visit your doctor. Urine analysis should be done. I've had bladder infections before...in my 20's and they usually burned and I had to go alot and it was hard to go. this is so much different. like it hurts within my lower abdomen and it feels painful as if something big is trying to push it's way out. yet it only happens after I am finished urinating. Do you still believe that could be a bladder infection? I haven't had one in years, but since I've had thyroid issues and the radiation to kill it. was on ptu for 3 years and many other meds. could that cause the infection?

Brief Answer: . Detailed Answer: Yes, still it can be an infection. Not every infection acts in the same way. Your thyroid issues or medicines in the past are rather not associated with recent infection. Please note that women are probe to UTI in general. It is because they have short urethra so the bacteria have short way to get to the bladder. Most common factor of such infections is intercourse. That is why, it is a good idea to urinate right after intercourse. Diabetes or just rare urinating (holding urine in the bladder for long time) can also cause such infection. So in conclusion, you should check your urine first. If there will be no infection, you should consult gynecologist as a next step. Regards.
