Posted on Sat, 26 Aug 2017
Question: I have severe intestinal spasiming. Green stool. Sore places in lower left and right intestinal area. "panic attacks" when feelings of icy fluid goes through my veins and blood pressure rises high. Am trying Lomotil but causes constipation (would taking Miralax help?) For blood pressure have been taking Carvedilol and Losartin Potassium. I don't know where to go next. Can you suggest anything? If it's excess of "bad" bacteria, how can I get rid of that?

Brief Answer:
Gastroenteritis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic for your query.
I've gone through your details.
I am a Gastroenterologist and would be addressing your concerns.

You have not mentioned the duration of your symptoms so i would take it as 7-10 days.

In that scenario you are having Enteritis.Gastroenteritis, also commonly referred to as infectious diarrhoea, is a gastric disorder. The gastrointestinal tract, which comprises of the small intestine and stomach gets inflamed. Gastroenteritis is indicated by the symptoms such as diarrhea, acute vomiting and pain in the abdomen. Fever, exhaustion and dehydration are also observed. This disease usually lasts not more than two weeks. It is also called the stomach flu. Infections caused by virus, bacteria, parasites or fungi may lead to gastroenteritis. Viruses account for this disease the most. This disease is transmitted mainly from food items and contaminated water. Important electrolytes like sodium and potassium are lost from our body.

Treatment-

Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration–You need to drink more than usual to replace the fluids lost from vomiting and diarrhoea. Water is best, but you could also try fruit juice and soup.
Take paracetamol for any fever or aches and pains.
Get plenty of rest.
If you feel like eating, try small amounts of plain foods, such as soup, rice, pasta and bread.
Use special rehydration drinks made from sachets electral solution to maintain depleted electrolyte levels in serum.
Take anti spasmodic like Dicyclomine 10 mg thrice a day to reduce stool frequency.
Stop taking loperamide.
Miralax will make things worse.
Take 3 days antibiotic and anti protozoal course.
Tab Ofloxacin 200 mg twice a day(9a.m-9 p.m)
Tab Metronidazole 400 mg twice daily(9a.m-9p.m)

You would need a prescription.

Get a stool test and ultrasonogram done.
Follow up with reports.
You would be fine in 3 days.

Thanks
