What Causes Severe Heartburn Type Chest Pains?

default
Posted on Tue, 20 May 2014
Question: I had chest pains today -severe heartburn type. Dr put me on Bystolic 5mg. I've never been on heart meds, so am hesitant having heard there are side effects to any meds, and to avoid them as much as possible. Plan to see my cardio ASAP. Shall I wait to take Bystolic? I had been on arthrogen but quit it in favor of 3 baby aspirin daily. I have joint pains and serious knee twisting related to lousy hip replacements! BP is usually 120/80 at most. Several episodes of Lyme's Disease (I'm currently on amoxy for this) Female age 72. No other meds except Prempro 2.5, for bone strength. Huge amount of tension in family caused by one rotten kid!

Brief Answer:
No serious harm with bystolic

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concern. Bystolic is listed to cause concerning side effects on web pages; but most people tolerate it very well. I would not mind taking it if there was no history of allergy and asthma.

However I am not sure what was the indication to start you on this medicine. Perhaps your blood pressure might have been high when the doctor recorded it. You can go ahead and start the pill as instructed. I would have also put you on antacids since heart burns is an indication of GERD too.

Since you plan to see the cardiologist, you can follow the instructions given. He/she can decide to taper it off.

Hope I answered your question. Let me know if you need clarifications.

Regards
