What Causes Severe Headaches Inspite Of Having Tylenol And Advil?
Question: Hi there.
I am a 36 year old woman who experiences daily migraines. I cannot seem to find any relief at all, no matter what I do. Being that I am a Registered Nurse, I have tried multiple therapies including botox, food intolerance testing and prophylactic birth control. I am terrified of becoming addicted to a narcotic. So... most often I end up in an emergency department and, although the Nurses and Physicians are absolutely wonderful, I feel terrible because I have disrupted the lives of my husband and two children. At this moment, I am in 10/10 pain with nausea and vomiting. I am very opposed to going to the Emergency as I work full time and am trying to manage this with Advil and Tylenol. I fear that I am going to ruin my liver with taking so many otc drugs. Is there anything that you can recommend? I do not have anything stronger in my medicine cabinet, and I do not have access to my family physician this week.

Brief Answer:
Rizatriptan is a good option.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for posting your query.
I have noted your symptoms. It is unfortunate to note that you have severe headaches and no treatment has been effective.
At this stage, you may benefit from taking rizatriptan tablets.
I usually recommend a dose of 10 mg to my patients. The same dose may be repeated after 30 minutes, in case, there is inadequate response to the first dose of rizatriptan.
I hope it helps.
Best wishes,

Because the headache is constantly there and there is no specific start and stop time to the headache, triptans have not been effective in the past. Is there anything else that you can suggest?
