What Causes Severe Head Pain With Fluctuating Heart Rate?

default
Posted on Thu, 28 Jan 2016
Question: The right side of my head hurts constantly the last 2 weeks. Just the right side. And it gets worse when my heart rate goes up. Especially when exceeding. It is a throbbing, like a 5/10
on the pain scale. I have had some shoulder/back issues, which have pretty much gone away the last 2 weeks too. I probably am not drinking enough water. I'm just scared this is a potential aneurysm... thoughts?

Brief Answer:
It can be migraine but further work up may ne needed

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic!

Based on the history you have shared, it can be simply a migraine headache which may last this longer and association with fast heart beat can occur with it too, and it can be throbbing too. But If there is no association with auras, nausea, vomiting or visual flickering or flashes, that is if clear cut diagnosis of migraine is doubtful in absence of other features, yes, need for brain imaging as pain is localised in one area so, radiographic help may be sought in form of CT or MRI with MRA which can rule out any potentially dangerous cause. Meanwhile using analgesics like acetaminophen after discussing with your GP will help. Hoping you a speedy recovery. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.
