What Causes Severe Cramping Around The Chest, Thighs, Behind The Legs And Hands?

Question: my husband has a severe problem with cramping around his chest wall as well as thighs, back of legs and hands. these are not all at the same time but he gets oner or two every day. The docs have tried Baclophen three times a day. I think that helped lessen the intensity but the cramps still come. If he uses his hands (eating, typing or holding something), the cramps come on. He is helped by heat, such as heating pad but that doesn't solved the problem. He has also taken Requip for restless legs and that helped the nighttime cramps. But the daytime cramps are the real problem. When the chest ones come (when he turns towards someone), the pain comes on so hard that he doubles up..this can be a problem since people are standing around and want to call 911. Do you have any thoughts

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Besides treatment with muscles relaxing drugs, it is necessary for your husband to get evaluated and tested further about the cause of the muscles cramps.

Conditions such dehydration, electrolytes depletion, atherosclerosis ( peripheral artery disease ), arthritis of the spine, kidney and thyroid gland dysfunction etc. should be taken into consideration and evaluated further.

Use of diazepam 5 mg twice daily for few days regarding to its muscles relaxer effects may help improve your husband's condition.

Discuss with your husband's primary care Doctor about these issues.
