What Causes Severe Cough After Eating?

default
Posted on Thu, 28 Sep 2017
Question: My wife has a chronic cough. Most often it is triggered by eating. Is seems clear that she is allergic to dairy; however, she often cough for hours after eating a meal, seemingly regardless of the food. By the end of the day, she is totally exhausted with a sore throat. She has days when the cough does not appear, but most days it starts in the AM and lasts most of the day. Almost nothing seems to give her relief including cough medicine, antihistamine, puffers, Prilosec, etc. Please give us a place to start.

Brief Answer:
Get done detailed allergy test.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
By your history and description, possibility of allergic reaction to food is more likely.
Also get done serum IgE level.
If IgE is high then it is allergic in nature.
Since you have tried all drugs, omalizumab (monoclonal antibody against IgE,) is the only drug left for allergies.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your wife. Thanks.
