What Causes Severe Chills, Fever And Flushing On The Face?

default
Posted on Fri, 29 Jul 2016
Question: My husband just came home not feeling well. He was having severe chills, and has a fever of 101.2. His pulse rate is about 105, and he experienced severe flushing of his face, which went away after a few minutes. He began experiencing these symptoms suddenly about 90 minutes ago. Normal day otherwise, with his usual food and caffeine intake. He has had two consecutive nights of reduced sleep due to late work schedule and early morning work as well, so he is running on about 60% of his normal sleep. He is currently in bed asleep with the electric blanket on to keep him warm.

Brief Answer:
viral fever, symptomatic treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome
I have gone through your query.

These days in practice we are also seeing such high grade viral fever which are taking upto 5 to 6 days to resolve.
We initially give them symptomatic treatment. If it dies not respond we ask for investigationS like complete blood pictures, Widal and peripheral smear for MP(MALARIAL PARASITES)

So I would suggest him take plenty of fluids, keep himself hydrated, as fever causes dehydration.
Paracetamol 650 mg thrice a day.
This fever should resolve in next 3-5 days, if persist we have to go for above mentioned tests.
Hope this helps
Take care.
