What Causes Severe And Burning Pain In The Rectum?
Question: I am having severe burning pain in my rectum. I had 3 polyps removed in 2010, but have not had a colonoscopy since then. I had stapled hemorrhoidectomy shortly after the colonoscopy. I have been having intense burning and pain in my rectum for 3 weeks now. I have been to my primary care physician who prescribed Hydrocod/acetam 10-325 Tab Mal, Proctosol HC 205% cream and Proctofoam-HC 1% AER MED for pain. I also take sitz baths with epson salt added to the water. I hurt so bad I can't function. There have been times that I have laid in bed with pillows under my tummy trying to get some relief. I have had very few days without pain for the past 3 weeks. I am waiting now for a return call from my doctor about getting a colonoscopy scheduled. My doctor did an exam after I told him I do have a small external hemorrhoid, but I didn't think it could be causing this much pain because I had had worse one in the past. He agreed that it shouldn't be the cause. Do you have any recommendations as to what I can do? Thank you, XXXX

Mostly from external engorged infected hemorrhoids with ano-proctitis with multiple fissures from infection.

From the past history -about 6 yrs back, though you are afraid for its recurrence, in view of your story and facts of query,
In My opinion and experience-
You seem to suffer from Acute Proctitis with accompanied Colitis with painful infected external hemorrhoids for last 3 weeks.
Burning pain is from anal cryptitis and from multiple anal fissures with engorged painful infected external hemorrhoids.
Dear, please update- if you had any hotel / street food /or spicy party foods, 3-4 weeks back.Mostly that food insult has lead to Colitis with Proctitis, and accompanying external hemorrhoids.
Do'S Suggested-
Consult with Surgeon and get the proctoscopy with lignocaine jelly- for anal and rectal examination, which would fix the cause.
Anal cryptitis with ano-rectal inflammation with Engorged infected external hemorrhoids would be seen-and needs to be treated as follows-
Tab Ciplox Oz- 1 x 2 times per day x 7-10 days time.
Cap Dafflon- 1 x 3 times / 1 week to control engorged external hemorrhoids and would reduce the accompanied pains.
Tab Motrin- 400 mg x 2 per day x 7-10 days
Tab Zincovit-1 x 2 weeks.
skimmed thin watery Butter Milk x 2-3 times a day.
Take plenty of fluids daily.
High fiber diet and bland diet x 2 weeks
Bowel Evacuants- like-Tab Dulcolax x 2 hs-to treat accompanied Constipation if need be.
Isabgol husk powder-2 tsf x daily x 3 days time for stool binding effect
Sietz bath with dettol solution x 2 times /day for 3-5 days would bring this pain under control- and would reduce the engorged external hemorrhoids.
Anovate Cream locally- 3 times a day x 5 days time.
Rest with trendlenburg -head low position- to control engorged external hemorrhoids.
Colonoscopy-only if no relief- to fix polyposis coli with colitis accompanied would be needed.If no relief you would need Colonosocopic examination in your case.
Hope this would resolve your burning anal pain with procto-colitis.
