What Causes Severe Abdominal Pain While Treating Pneumonia?

default
Posted on Mon, 12 Jun 2017
Question: My father-in-law is 90 yrs. old. He had a treatment to dilate his esophagus two weeks ago. About 2 hrs later he tried to eat and experienced severe abdominal pain. Was taken to the hospital in an ambulance (wife, age 89 blind in one eye) and underwent CT scans. Nothing identified except bladder not emptying completely and pneumonia. Catheter installed. Was given an IV of Lasix. Previous day could walk; collapsed when he tried to walk the day following being medicated with Lasix. At home now, still catheterized. Previously had a prostate biopsy (5 yrs. ago) with numerous complications urinating following that. Last yr it took 19 weeks of wearing a catheter and bag to treat kidney stones. Now the urologist wants to do a procedure on Thurs. but in-laws can't tell me what the procedure is. Is there an alternative to an invasive treatment? If so, what is it?

Brief Answer:
What procedure does the urologist want to do?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about your father's illness. definitely, he's going through so much at this time. To tell whether there are less invasive procedures, I will need to know the exact procedure(name) that the urologist wants to do or the exact disease condition so that I can tell you what the different options are. If I can't get these, it will be difficult to really propose something comprehensive and helpful to you. Try to talk to your family members to see if you can obtain some more leads.

I hope to hear from you at your earliest convenience and promise to return to you as soon as your responses get here.
Brief Answer:
Will be on the look out!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Am available for further exchanges. Do keep me posted about any further developments.

I wish you and your father in-law well.

I do not know. His granddaughter is calling his doctor tomorrow and also attempting to schedule a second opinion with another practice.
I'll let you know something when I know something. Thanks for your reply. XXXXXXX
