Brief Answer:
Causes might include insomina, sleep apnea and causes of hypertension.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Any rise in blood pressure during sleep is abnormal and to be reported to your doctors. During normal sleep there is a dip in the blood pressure as compared to wakefulness and this is called nocturnal dipping. A decrease of 10% to 20% in mean nocturnal BP (both systolic and diastolic) compared with mean daytime BP is considered normal.

In your case, you state that there is a higher blood pressure recording during sleep and this needs detailed investigations. Lack or diminished nocturnal dipping of BP is a strong, independent predictor of cardiovascular risk and heart disease.

Many diseases are associated with diminished or absence of nocturnal dipping, including most secondary causes of hypertension, chronic kidney disease, diabetes, older age, resistant hypertension, and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Causes of insomnia like restless leg syndrome also causes rise in blood pressure during sleep.

Please do not ignore your condition and discuss in detail with your doctor. Should you be taking medications for any health conditions, please have it reviewed and always take medications as prescribed.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
