Brief Answer:
Tinnitus, needs management

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. The ringing in the ear is called tinnitus and is very common in ages above 40 affecting one in five people commonly due to age related hearing loss, earwax blockage, high blood pressure, some medications induced ( water pills, aspirin, antibiotics, quinine etc) ear injury or some circulatory problem.

Although worrisome but tinnitus is not a serious illness and resolves and reduces in symptoms once the cause underneath is spotted out.

management of this tinnitus purely depends on the cause. If some medication is causing it replacement of the medicine works. If ear problem like wax blockage suctioning of the wax and its removal helps. If high blood pressure is the problem reducing it resolves tinnitus. Masking devices, hearing aids and retraining devices work like charm and are often advised in age related tinnitus. Apart from it medications like Tricyclic antidepressants and anxolytics also work like charm.

Avoid possible irritants like alcohol, caffeine, noise and nicotine etc. Cover up noise like a fan, soft music or low-volume radio static may help mask the noise from tinnitus. Also Stress can make tinnitus worse. Stress management, whether through relaxation therapy, biofeedback or exercise, may provide some relief. Apart from it following alternative therapies also work in tinnitus.

Acupuncture
Hypnosis
Ginkgo biloba
Zinc supplements
B vitamins
Neuromodulation using transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a painless, noninvasive therapy that has been successful in reducing

Nutshell talk to your otorhinolaryngologist and let them sort it out for you.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Khan
