What Causes Right-sided Sharp Pain Under Rib Cage And Chills?

default
Posted on Mon, 19 Oct 2015
Question: Yesterday I had a rather sharp pain on my right side underneath my rib cage and about half way to my waist. It was particularly painful when I took a moderate to deep breath. When I went to bed I started shaking uncontrollably, as if I had chills, but I was not cold. It lasted about 10 minutes until I found that if I breathed slowly and deeply, the shaking was reduced. The same area is still tender this morning, but not as painful and I am no longer shaking.

I should note that I had been constipated for two days and had bowel movements this morning. Stool was dark, but I had two glasses of red wine last night.

Brief Answer:
Better to get done chest x ray first.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
In my opinion, you should first get done chest x ray to rule out lung infection because this can cause pain under ribs on breathing.
Lung infection also causes chills.
So first rule out lung infection by chest x ray.
Another possibility is musculoskeletal pain.
You can take painkiller and muscle relaxant drugs at present. Apply warm water pad on affected areas.
Avoid movements causing pain.
Don't worry, you will be alright, but first get done chest x ray to rule out lung infection.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
