What Causes Repeated Attacks Of Shortness Of Breath?

default
Posted on Fri, 5 Jun 2015
Question: I am a 21 year old female. I try to stay pretty active, however, I just started running again and noticed shortness of breath. I wasn't too concerned about it but now I feel like I'm having episodes of shortness of breath when I'm just relaxing. My allergies are significantly worse this year. I also have noticed if I think about my breathing I think it gets worse leading new to think it might be related to anxiety. I can talk just fine and you cannot hear any physical stain to breath. No regular cough or wheezing. No fever or increased heart rate. I just feel like I'm taking more frequent shallow breaths.

Brief Answer:
Get done PFT first.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your concern.
Since you are having allergies, better to rule out asthma first. Asthma is caused by allergic inflammation of airways and repeated attacks of shortness of breath are characteristic feature of asthma.
So get done PFT first.
If PFT is normal then no need to worry for asthma.
Anxiety can also also cause kind of repeated breathing difficulty.
So consult psychiatrist and get done counseling sessions. Try to identify stressor in your life and start working on its solution.
Don't worry, you will be alright. Avoid stress and tension, be relax and calm.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.
Thanks.
