What Causes Reoccurring Dull Pain Under Right Clavicle?

Posted on Mon, 9 Feb 2015
Question: I've had reoccurring dull pain under right clavicle for some time. It's getting more prevalent. Have noted bloating and gassiness when eating high fatty foods. I'm a healthcare professional and I hate it when people self diagnosis. However I am wondering if I am having some gallbladder issues.

Brief Answer:
3 possible causes

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I am Dr Mittal.
I have read your query. I think I would be able to help you.

The symptoms of the query are quite suggestive of 2 possible causes -
1. A gastritis. This can cause both abdominal and infraclavicular pain.
2. A cardiac condition- again this can cause both the symptoms.

I would agree with the possibility of gall bladder stones. However, infraclavicular discomfort is not a very frequent symptom of the gall stones. Besides gall stones is known to cause severe abdominal pain.

I therefore suggest a ekg and usg abdomen both.
And you can start with proton pump inhibitors.
A dose of pantoprazole 40 mg once daily before food would be a good starting therapy.

I have tried to make it as simple as possible. I hope that the information helps you. Please feel free to contact us for more information. Best of luck. Dr Mittal.
