What Causes Recurrent Nasal Congestion, Cold And Fever?

default
Posted on Wed, 14 May 2014
Question: Hi
My daughter is 2yrs 8months old. She is having nasal congestion since last 4 months,at times accompanied by cough & fever .Though her chest is clear all this while. We have tried allopathic medicines like levolin(for cough) , augpen (antibiotic),dolpar(for fever) ,allegra. This gives temporary releif, but congestion is back when medicines are gone.
We have tried homeopathic medicines(names not known). This gives her relief. But again, once medicines are stopped, problem is back.
Homeopathic doc says she is allergic to any artificial sweets & dryfruits. We are not giving her that too.
We are worried .She is on medicines since long. Her immunity has gone very low. She cannot resist cold & fever(eventually) in bare minimal situations causing cold.
Please help.

Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Ms XXXX,

The most likely cause of recurrent nasal congestion appears to be allergic rhinitis. The allergy in majority of the cases is due to dust and mites. This is a common problem encountered in children. Do not worry things can be taken care off.

I would advis you the following, which i am sure will definitely help

1. Steam inhalation: It will be a good habit to cultivate. Steam inhalation for 10-15 minutes each session twice a day. Give it regularly even if she is alright. It helps reduce nasal congestion and also clears the nose. You can buy a good quality electronic steamer
2. Monticope suspension: It has antihistaminic and mast cell stabilizer which will help reduce airway hyper reactivity and reduce the incidence of future attacks. It has to be used for 4- 6 months after which it can be stopped. 2.5 mg of Montelukast once daily
3. Wash the bed sheets pillow covers and cloth of baby in hot boiling water: It will remove the dust , mites and allergic substance present in it.
4. Decoction: To a cup of milk + 20 tulsi leaves+ 1 spoon of turmeric + small piece of ginger + 4 black pepper + 2 spoon of sugar. Bring it to boil. Filter it and feed her warm daily. It will reduce airway congestion and also Tulsi will boost immunity
5. Chyawanprash : 1 teaspoon twice a day will be beneficial to build up immunity
6. Himalaya Septilin syrup 5 ml twice a day will also boost immunity. Continue giving her for 3-4 months.

Do get back to me for any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Thanks for the response.
I would like to correct my query here. Its not 4months, its 7 months. Hope same remedy is applicable in this case too.

We have few queries :
1. Should we start this medication immediately(stopping the ongoing medicines(augpen, alaspan)?
2. Does this mean, that she is not allergic to artificial sweets & dryfruits? Only one homeopathic doc told us about her this allergy. But, also homeopathic medicines of only this doctor suits her.
3. Can we give her some health drink like complan, pediasure or horlicks?
4. We give her double toned milk. Switching to full cream milk loosens her stool. How can we prevent this

Dear Ms XXXXX

Continue giving Levolin, rest of the medication advised can be started.
2. Homeopaths usually attribute many of the allergy to food stuffs. Its always better to avoid artificial sweets. Giving fresh fruits is advisable.
3. You can definitely give health drinks depending on what baby likes
4. It is always better to go for fresh cow's milk

Thanks again
Things apart.
I have some more concerns
1)She is not able to speak clearly. She can speak out sentences, but uses only few meaningful words in these. Rest all is unmeaningful. She'll be three in aug. Im worried. Should we provide her with speech therapy classes?
2)She is very restless, does not sit & concentrate for more than few mins. Its difficult to make her busy. She doesnt play or enjoy books, pictures, colors for more than few mins. After these mins she throws away the stuff. She is always wandering. Its just cartoons that can make her busy. She can enjoy cartoons at tv for hours. One of the doc said she may have AUTISM .But we are not sure.

We will not be able to write back here. It was really a good experience to discuss things with you. Thanks for all the help & support provided.I will leave back a testimonial as well

Dear Ms XXXXX

Every child is unique and has his own growth and development milestone.
From the description given by you it appears to be Attention deficit hyperactive disorder ( ADHD ). Diagnosis will depend on clinical assessment and detailed evaluation.
I would suggest you to consult Child development clinic ( CDC ) . It will be located in your nearest Medical College hospital. In case you have any difficulty kindly let me know.

Wishing you and your family a very happy and healthy life.

Take care

Deepak
